Integrated greenhouse system

Cooling and Ventilation for Hot-Climate Greenhouses

In hot climates, greenhouse cooling must be designed as a system. Greenhouse volume, ventilation path, temperature, humidity, solar radiation, shading and crop tolerance affect performance.

Natural ventilation

Roof and side ventilation can remove heat when external conditions and greenhouse geometry allow. Vent opening area, wind and insect-net resistance should be reviewed.

Fan and pad cooling

Exhaust fans and evaporative cooling pads can lower incoming-air temperature when humidity conditions are suitable. Performance is evaluated against local wet-bulb conditions and crop targets.

Shading and heat load

External or internal shading can reduce solar heat gain. The strategy should balance cooling benefit with the crop’s light requirement.
